South East Queensland Home Wastewater Improvement Grant

Moreton Bay Council has partnered with Seqwater as part of an initiative providing grants to property owners — starting in the North Pine Catchment — to replace or repair on-site sewage facilities in Rush Creek, Armstrong Creek, and Kobble Creek.

Why is the Council offering wastewater improvement grants?

Maintaining sewage treatment systems is critical for safeguarding both environmental and public health. A poorly maintained system can lead to the contamination of local drinking water, especially when these issues persist within the city’s waterways and catchment areas.

In particular, a poorly maintained system can:

  • Discharge pathogenic organisms, including viruses and bacteria like E. coli.
  • Increase nutrient levels that promote the growth of algae and aquatic weeds, reducing oxygen and impacting aquatic life
  • Contaminate groundwater

Key Benefits of Regular Wastewater Maintenance

By incentivising property owners, the grant aims to reverse these negative impacts while contributing to a cleaner and healthier environment, maintaining a higher standard for sewage and wastewater management going forward.
